In this guide, you will learn about the installation process of the Epson TM-U220 printer driver on a Linux computer. Although I have described the installation steps for the Ubuntu version of Linux, but you can use the same installation steps, with the necessary alterations, to install your Epson TM-U220 printer driver on other Linux versions as well.
- Right click on the driver package file and choose the ‘Extract Here’ option from the menu.
- Go to the folder where the driver package content was extracted, then right click in the blank space and choose the ‘Open in Terminal’ option.
- In the Terminal window, type the ‘chmod a+x install.sh’ command, then press the ‘Enter’ key on your keyboard. This command will grant you access rights to execute the install.sh file so that you can run this file.
- Now, type the ‘sudo sh install.sh’ command, then press the ‘Enter’ key to begin the driver installation process on your computer.
- Type the password, then press the ‘Enter’ key.
- Now you will be asked, what type of Linux OS version are you using, is it ubuntu32, ubuntu64, opensuse32 or opensuse64? Since, I am using a 64-bit version of the Linux mint which is similar to ubuntu and Debian, so I selected the ‘ubuntu64’ option, then typed number ‘2’ to confirm my choice and pressed the ‘Enter’ key. Enter your choice according to your OS version.
- Wait for the installation of the printer driver to complete.
- When you see the message that the installation has finished, then press the ‘Enter’ key to proceed.
- Open the main menu and search for ‘printers’, then click on “Printers” in the search results.
- In the Printers folder, click on the ‘Add’ option to proceed.
- In the Select Device screen, choose the ‘Unknown’ option and make sure that the connection option is ‘USB’, then click on the ‘Forward’ button.
- Wait for the search of the printer drivers to complete.
- In the Choose Driver screen, select the ‘Provide PPD file’ option, then click on the ‘Browse’ link.
- Go to the folder where you have extracted the printer driver files, then open the ‘ppd’ folder.
- Right click the address bar and select ‘Copy’ from the options to copy the address of the ppd folder.
- Paste the ppd folder address copied in the previous step in the driver setup screen, then click on the ‘Open’ button to continue.
- In the Choose Driver screen, make sure that the Epson TM U220 ppd file is mentioned, then click on the ‘Forward’ button.
- In the Describe Printer screen, make sure that all the provided details are up to your liking, if you want to change anything, then you can do so now, otherwise, click on the ‘Apply’ button.
- You will be asked whether you want to print a test page with your printer or not. I chose to perform this step later, therefore, I clicked on the ‘Cancel’ button. If you want, then you can print a test page to confirm that your printer is working properly.
